AMBASSADOR OF CZECHIA SAYS HIS COUNTRY WILL BE FURTHER BACKING MOLDOVA

15 octomber, 2020

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Czech Republic to Moldova Zdenek Krejci has stated that his country will be further supporting Moldova, “which is one of priority states for Czechia”. The diplomat made that statement on Thursday during the ceremony of launching an environment protection project to be realized in the Vulcanesti Raion in southern Moldova.

“Moldova is one of priority states for the Czech Republic in the cooperation plane. We have successfully realized a project on the sealing of a burial ground of pesticides in the village of Cismichioi, and implemented a range of social programs in the Gagauzia autonomy”, said the Ambassador.

The project on lowering risks of contamination at a MoldElectrica substation stipulates the examination of soils and ground water. In 1970, an explosion occurred at the substation that had led to substantial pollution of the territory. Waste products were then buried in 4 pits, which currently contain up to 20 tons of harmful materials, according to specialists’ estimates.

Within the project framework, up to 1,400 samples will be taken to be analyzed in the Czech Republic. This work done, experts will prepare a project of cleansing of the contaminated territory.

The current project is financed by the Czechia Development Agency and is realized by the DEKONTA organization, whose specialists and equipment are already in Vulcanesti.
