JCC MEETING FAILS TO BE HELD AGAIN DUE TO DISCORD OVER AGENDA

16 octomber, 2020

The ordinary weekly working meeting of the Joint Control Commission (JCC, the supervisory body for the Joint Peacekeeping Forces, JPF) failed to be held on Thursday due to the Transnistrian side’s unwillingness to include “a number of essential questions” into the agenda.

Moldova’s National Bureau for Country Reintegration has explained that the Moldovan delegation pointed out the violations committed by “the so-called ministry of state security [MGB of Transnistria], which is not eligible to be present in the zone of responsibility of the Joint Peacekeeping Forces, but nevertheless it kidnaps people from the zone”.

The Bureau stated that “The hostile and destructive position of the Transnistria representatives did not permit to achieve a consensus at shaping the agenda of the meeting, which was thus put off for one more week”.

However, Transnistrian JCC Co-Chairman Oleg Belyakov laid the blame for upsetting the meeting on the Moldovan delegation.

“The Moldovan side is again trying to politicize the JCC activities and is trying to discuss at working meetings questions of the activities of law enforcement agencies. But we may not discuss them – neither the activities of judges nor of police”, stressed Oleg Belyakov.
