MOLDAVSKAYA INCREASES POWER GENERATION BY 11% THIS YEAR

30 octomber, 2020

The Moldavskaya power plant [in Transnistria, the Republic of Moldova’s largest energy producer] had produced 3478 million kilowatt/hours of electric power last January through September, or up 11% against the equivalent period in the previous year. The increase occurred due to a grown demand for power in the Transnistrian region and “grown exports to Moldova”, reported the plant administration.

Moldavskaya is one of the biggest thermoelectric power stations of such type in Europe. It supplies power to the mainland Moldova and Transnistrian region. As a generating unit, the station is an inseparable part of a united energy system of Moldova and Ukraine. Its open distribution facilities (ORU 110, 330 and 400 kV) play an exceptionally important role in electric power transmission for consumers in Ukraine, Moldova and for possible transmission to European Union countries.

In 2005, Moldavskaya was purchased by the Inter RAO EES (Russia). And in the spring of 2020, the station became the only power supplier to Moldova, whose own power generating facilities permit to produce not more than one-third of what Moldova consumes.
