IN SECOND ROUND OF MOLDOVAN PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION, TRANSNISTRIA RESIDENTS WILL USE SAME RULES AS BEFORE

13 november, 2020

At voting in the second round of the Moldovan presidential election due on November 15, Transnistria residents having the Moldovan citizenship will be using the same rules as in the first round held on November 1, the Transnistrian operative headquarters for COVID-19 prevention confirmed on Thursday.

According to its decision, Transnistria residents having the citizenship of Moldova shall be ensured a trouble-free passage to polling stations on the right Dniester River side. Upon returning back to the region, they shall be demanded to produce a document proving their participation in the voting – a stamp with a mark of voting put in the passport’s insert. If there is no such mark, the person will have to spend two weeks in a self-isolation regime applied to all people crossing the administrative line between the mainland Moldova and the Transnistrian region.

Transnistria is home to about 450 thousand people, of whom 247.6 thousand have the Moldovan citizenship. They can realize their suffrage at 42 specially assigned polling stations that will be working on November 15 in 22 Moldovan populated areas in the Security Zone as well as in Chisinau and Balti.
