TRANSNISTRIA NOT GOING TO CANCEL ELECTIONS DUE TO COVID-19

19 november, 2020

Parliamentary and local elections will be held in Transnistria as was scheduled from the very beginning – on the so-called ‘combined voting day’ of November 29, and with a strict observance of all epidemiological rules and precautions, confirmed the region’s central election commission.

According to it, all the participants in the electoral process (voters and personnel) will be provided at the government’s expense with protective masks and gloves. In the voting premises, a ‘social distance’ of minimum 1 meter will be marked with a colored Scotch tape. The premises will be equipped with bactericide ultraviolet air re-circulators. The polling areas will be subjected to a thorough disinfection before, during and after voting.

The Transnistrian region has organized 7 city (raion) territorial election commissions, 77 village territorial commissions, 33 constituency commissions and 256 district commissions. Thirty-three seats in the Transnistrian supreme soviet [parliament] are being sought by more than 50 contenders, of whom 32 are incumbent supreme soviet deputies.
