MOLDOVA PRESIDENT WILL MEET WITH TRANSNISTRIA LEADER, IF IT IS NECESSARY TO SOLVE THE PROBLEMS OF CITIZENS

18 january, 2021

President Maia Sandu will meet with the leader of Transnistria, Vadim Krasnoselsky, if necessary to solve the problems of citizens. As Infotag reports, she said this during the program “Friday with Anatolie Golea” on the RTR-Moldova TV channel.

Sandu stated she has no plans for such a meeting yet.

“If it is necessary to solve the problems of the citizens of Moldova, I will meet. Only in order to solve the problems of citizens from the two banks of the Dniester,” the head of state stressed.

According to the President, “a consensus must be reached to resolve the Transnistrian issue.”

“We need a general plan for the settlement of the Transnistrian conflict. There cannot be a plan for one or the other party. This is too serious a question. We need a consensus of the whole society, a political consensus. We have leverage points to come up with a solution. Firstly, it is a peaceful settlement of the conflict, political and diplomatic. Secondly, it is the preservation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova within its internationally recognized borders. Thirdly, it is the preservation of the functionality of our state. We want the quality of life to improve on both banks. There are main principles, but we all have to find a solution together,” Sandu noted.

Answering questions from the journalist, the President stated that in the near future she would have an adviser on reintegration issues, but refused to give his name. Sandu also said that in the near future a secretary of the Supreme Security Council will be appointed and the composition of the council will be updated, after which its first meeting will take place.
