GENDER–DOC–M CALLS UPON AUTHORITIES TO PROVIDE FREEDOM OF PEACEFUL ASSEMBLIES
Chisinau. The Gender-Doc-M organization, which tried to organize the protest action of sexual minorities on May 11 in Chisinau, calls upon the Moldovan authorities to provide freedom of peaceful assemblies for all Moldovan citizens.
As Infotag has already reported, the parade of sexual minorities, which had to take place in Chisinau on Sunday, was frustrated by representatives of Christian and radical organizations. Representatives of these organizations gathered before 11 o’clock in front of the National Library and waited until the bus, who had to deliver representatives of sexual minorities to the central square, reached the library. They blocked the way to the bus and did not allow it to continue its travel until they were convinced that the parade of national minorities would not take place. They did not even allow representatives of sexual minorities to release their balloons – the balloons were simply pierced.
Gender-Document-M Director General Aleksei Marcicov said that the new version of the Law on Freedom of Assembly guarantees the right to freedom of assembly to all Moldovan citizens.
The same law obliges the law and order authorities to guarantee the security of participants during their actions. Unfortunately, the police, which were present at our meeting, did not undertake anything, thus the police silently approved all the actions of aggressive adversaries of this action”, Marcicov remarked.
“We call upon the Ministry of Interior to fulfill their functions on providing the freedom of assembly for Moldovan citizens. We also call upon the European Union, the OSCE Mission and organizations protecting human rights, to react to this grand violation of human rights and to urge the Moldovan authorities to observe the laws and their international obligations, he said.
