SOCIAL DEMOCRATS FOR CANCELING ENTRY VISAS TO ROMANIA
Chisinau. The Social Democratic Party of Moldova (SDPM) is going to propose that the Governments of Romania and the Republic of Moldova address the European Union leadership with a joint request to permit cancel entry visas for Moldova nationals going to Romania.
SDPM leader (and ex-Prime Minister of Moldova) MP Dumitru Braghis told a news conference in Infotag today that the visa regime for Moldovans should be cancelled at least until Romania is admitted into the Schengen Area. He believes this could be a solution to the problem of free entry to Romania for Moldovans, which has been actively discussed lately in the context of Convention on trans-border traffic between the two countries.
Braghis disapproved what the Moldovan Government did last Tuesday – sent to Bucharest its proposals on changing the Convention text, for he believes “this means that our Government has shouldered on Romania the responsibility for solving the problems faced by Moldova citizens. I guess this is but foot-dragging”.
In his words, it is impossible to introduce major amendments to the Convention text because this is a European Union framework convention, so the Romanian Government is not in a position to make changes.
“The Convention signature dragging shows that our Government doesn’t care about the interests of its citizens and tackles the problem through the prism of the ruling party’s narrow interests”, said the SDPM Chairman.
