LIBERAL DEMOCRATS TO RESUME PROTESTS IN SUPPORT OF CONVENTION ON SMALL CROSS-BORDER TRAFFIC WITH ROMANIA
Chisinau. The Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova (LDPM) has announced plans to resume protest rallies in support of signing a convention on small cross-border traffic between Moldova and Romania.
LDPM leader Vladimir Filat told a news conference at the Infotag news agency today that the protest rallies are scheduled to take place from 21 July until 1 September in the towns of Comrat, Taraclia, Cahul, Nisporeni and Edinet. During these actions, the LDPM will distribute over 200,000 leaflets containing information about the advantages of this convention, first and foremost, the free-visa entry into Romania for residents of near-border settlements.
Filat acknowledged that the goal of the action is to put pressure on the government in order to sign this convention as soon as possible.
“The convention on small cross-border traffic will bring numerous privileges to Moldova’s citizens and it is a pity not to take advantage of them. The LDPM is a party that acts rather than sends letters to country’s leadership asking it to do something. We will stage protests and will react every time citizens’ interests and rights are violated”, Filat underlined.
According to him, the LDMP has already collected 1.5 million signatures in favour of signing the convention.
As already reported by Infotag, the LDPM started holding protest rallies in support of signing the above convention last May.
For their part, the Moldovan Communist authorities say that they will sign the convention only after Romania signs the border and the basic politic agreements with Moldova.
