RUSSIAN YOUTH LEAGUE STANDS FOR INDEPENDENT MOLDOVA
Chisinau. The League of the Russian Youth in Moldova stands against Moldova’s unification with Romania and for this republic’s remaining an independent state, League Chairman Igor Tulyantsev stated at a news conference in Infotag today.
In his words, despite the Youth Year declared here by the official authorities, League activists have experienced many instances of intimidation and attempts to recruit them by the Moldovan state security officers.
He said some State-controlled mass media distort truth and use dirty methods with respect to the leaders of pro-Russian organizations, “but the League has not surrendered. On the contrary, it is actively working, is achieving its goals, and is quite able to defend itself”.
Tulyantsev said the League unites the youth of Moldova no matter ethnicity – just young people wishing to live in an independent, multi-ethnic and flourishing Moldova.
“There is not a single educational institution in Moldova where teaching would be in the Moldovan language, but only in the Romanian language, and where young people would study the history of Moldova. We regard this as one of many attempts to romanianize the population”, stated Igor Tulyantsev.
Founded in 2001, the League currently unites over 3 thousand supporters, of whom nearly 9 hundred reside in Chisinau and the rest – all over the country. The League is an integral part of the Congress of Russian Communities headed by Valery Klimenko.
