NATIONAL BORDER PARK MAY BE CREATED IN PRUT RIVER BASIN

NATIONAL BORDER PARK MAY BE CREATED IN PRUT RIVER BASIN

Chisinau.  A National Border Park may be created in the Prut River basin. It is envisaged by the Strategy for the Iaşi-Moldova Border Tourism Development, which was worked out in the frame of the Beautiful Moldova Project.

Chairman of the Moldova Ecological Movement (the project partner) Alecu Reniţă said at a news conference in Infotag on Thursday that the status of the National Park will give a chance to preserve and to protect the natural resources of the Prut region.

“We shall also give a possibility to the inhabitants of this region to develop by means of organizing national festivals and other cultural events. At the same time, by means of developing the infrastructure this zone will become an attractive tourist place for the inhabitants of Moldova, Romania and other foreign tourists”, Reniţă considers.

In his opinion, this project can be realized within the near 4-5 years with the financing on the part of the European Union.

Lavinia Hriţcu from the Iaşi Tourism Promotion Bureau, who is responsible for this strategy, remarked that the worked-out Strategy for Border Tourism Development includes five lines – diversification and quality improvement of tourist products and services, improvement of the tourist infrastructure, propaganda of the Iaşi-Moldova Border Tourism zone, development of civil partnership and human resources.

“The strategy envisages also working out joint tourist routes, for example, a Wine Way or a Way to the Temple. Foreign tourists show interest in folk traditions, and in this aspect, our potential is very big. All these services can be included into joint packages of tour agencies of Moldova and Romania”, Hriţcu considers.

In her words, the development strategy envisages also creating a joint database of the region’s tourist objects, the Beautiful Moldova national brand and opening of a tourist promotion office in Chisinau.

The Beautiful Moldova is sponsored by the European Union in the frame of the Phare program and by the Iaşi Mayor’s office. The project is valued at 151 thousand euros.
