SOCIAL DEMOCRATS SURE THEY WILL POLL 15% NEXT YEAR
Chisinau. The Social Democratic Party of Moldova is confidently claiming it will necessarily win seats in the next Moldovan Parliament, for it will poll some 15% ballots at the 2009 parliamentary elections.
Party leader and former Moldovan Prime Minister MP Dumitru Braghis told a news conference in Infotag today that such confidence rests on the impressive, continuous inflow of new members into the party and on the findings of latest opinion polls.
“However, we are not going to negotiate a coalition forming with anybody until the election end. The next Parliament will consist of the representatives of 6 parties, including the SDPM. We are ready for forming a coalition with the Left as well as with the Right, provided our partners share principles we regard important. But without the Social Democrats’ participation, the new parliament will be unable to elect President or form a new Government”, said Dumitru Braghis.
He further held, “I think some politicians are committing a serious mistake when they care only about how to become a president instead of thinking how to overcome the global financial crisis consequences. The SDPM, for instance, has worked out an anti-crisis program of its own. We have formulated concrete proposals how to cushion down the impact of this crisis on Moldova. I am already beginning to feel the effects of this phenomenon, and am calling upon the President, Parliament and Government to undertake the SDPM anti-crisis measures”.
The former Moldovan Prime Minister called on government to cancel some enterprise privatization auctions announced recently, for “the present time is not the best one for selling the objects, as prices on them will be lower than in a good time”.
