PATRIA MOLDOVA STANDS IN SUPPORT OF RAVNOPRAVIYE

PATRIA MOLDOVA STANDS IN SUPPORT OF RAVNOPRAVIYE

Chisinau.   The Patria-Moldova international organization led by Andrei Tarna has decided that at the forthcoming 2009 parliamentary elections in Moldova it will support the Ravnopraviye [Equal Rights] Socio-Political Movement headed by Valery Klimenko.

On Tuesday, Patria-Moldova organized a news conference in Infotag, at which Mr. Victor Safonenko of the organization’s leadership read out a statement signed by Tarna and saying that the two organizations have long been cooperating successfully.

“Ravnopraviye is an organization that struggles for equality of the rights of all Moldova citizens no matter their ethnicity. This is particularly understandable to us – citizens of Moldova staying outside our native country. That’s why we are calling on all citizens to vote in 2009 exactly for Ravnopraviye”, Andrei Tarna wrote in the statement.

The document also held that Patria-Moldova took an active part in the previous parliamentary elections in 2005. Then, 90% Moldovans, who came to the only polling station opened in Moscow, voted for parties other than the Communist Party, which he believes “is a clear indicator of how Moldovan gastarbeiters treat the ruling party and its work methods”.

Victor Safonenko refrained from answering journalists’ questions and only said Andrei Tarna is coming to Chisinau soon and will answer any questions.

Andrei Tarna is the former Chairman of the Patria-Moldova party. He was removed from the post due to the differences that had developed between him and some influential party members.
