OPPOSITION ASKING COUNCIL OF EUROPE
Chisinau. The Liberal Party, the Liberal Democratic Party and the Moldova Noastra Alliance, which have formed a Political Council for Dialog and Cooperation, have addressed to the Council of Europe requesting to delegate a CE mission to Moldova to monitor the ongoing election campaign.
The Council’s Executive Secretary, Moldova Noastra Alliance First Deputy Chairman Veaceslav Untila told a news conference in Infotag today that the address was worked out by the three parties’ representatives while in Strasbourg, attending the CE Monitoring Committee meeting at which the draft Resolution 1666 on Moldova was considered.
“We requested organizing an international monitoring of pre-election situation here, because the Council of Europe seems to be informed not quite correctly about the situation in Moldova. The Council of Europe promised to organize a monitoring mission”, said Untila.
In his words, the opposition parties have managed to explain in Strasbourg the essence of the pseudo-democratic reforms by the Communists, in particular of the recent lowering of the electoral barrier [to 5% from the previous 6%]: the Communists thus sought to create better election conditions for parties, which, once in parliament, could become partners to the Communist faction.
Liberal Party Deputy Chairwoman Corina Fusu said, “Until now, the Moldovan opposition had not been let to international forums. And those who only pretended to represent the opposition used to put forward messages favorable to the Communist authorities, and such messages were used for misinforming, not for informing the public”.
LDPM First Deputy Chairman, lawyer Alexandru Tanase expressed hope the CE monitoring mission will be efficient.
The Council representatives said they are preparing a dossier of documentary evidence that the April 5 election results were really rigged, and the dossier is going to be submitted to the European Court of Human Rights.
