HILSWERK OF AUSTRIA OPENS SUMMER SCHOOL ON DEMOCRACY AND INTEGRATION

Chisinau.   The Hilswerk non-governmental organization of Austria has opened in Vadul lui Voda (near Chisinau) a summer school on “Democracy, Integration and Peace Culture”. The summer school is working according to an international education program that includes three annual summer schools and a distant program of training to last from November 2006 to March 2010.

The school holds lessons in collaboration with History Institute of the Moldovan Academy of Sciences, NGO World Window (Tiraspol), Moldova State University, Independent International University of Moldova (ULIM), Perspective University, and Institute for Danube Region and Central Europe (Vienna).

The Head of the OSCE Mission to Moldova, Ambassador Philip Remler, said during the school opening ceremony that its students are the country’s future leaders. He voiced hope they would use maximum of the knowledge to be given to them by teachers, and, in particular, will learn the art of polemic and of respecting other people’s opinions.

The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Czech Republic to the Republic of Moldova, Petr Kypr, said the school should help the Moldovan youth to better understand the possibilities and requirements of European structures.

The school has been organized for students and post-graduates from both Dniester banks to teach them work habits in the spheres of international relations, political sciences, peace maintenance, and leadership. The project is targeted essentially at making politics serve the consolidation of democracy in Moldova and raise the youth in the spirit of democratic values.

The project is funded mainly by the Austrian Development Cooperation (ADC) organization and is co-funded by the OSCE Mission to Moldova.
