PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES CALL UPON EMPLOYERS TO BE MORE SENSITIVE TO THEIR NEEDS

PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES CALL UPON EMPLOYERS TO BE MORE SENSITIVE TO THEIR NEEDS

Chisinau. People with limited movement possibilities call upon employers to be more sensitive to their needs and to provide them with jobs.

Project Coordinator of the Motivaţie Association Tatiana Nita said at a news conference in Infotag that, as a rule, Moldovan economic entities refuse to employ invalids.

“Unfortunately, employers consider that invalids are not able to work and everything is reduced to an appeal for help, but it is not so. In our organization there are people, who use mobile perambulators and fulfill excellently their service functions. Alongside with this, international organizations manifest a better readiness to employ people with disabilities, foreigners’ mentality is different”, Nita underlined.

Project coordinator Igor Mereacra said that another problem, the invalids face, is the infrastructure, which is not adapted for their needs.

“Though many building in Chisinau, trade and entertainment centers have special entrances for such people, they do not correspond to the perambulators, used by invalids very often. The situation is even worse in the rural area, where people with limited movement possibilities cannot even leave their houses”, Mereacra said.

He recommended parents to change their attitude to their children with disabilities.

“It is very important that parents should not view such children only as consumers, who are in permanent need of help, but they should give them a chance to manifest independence, so that they would be able to be convinced that they can do something themselves and in this way they are able to lead almost a  normal way of life”, Mereacra underlined.

The Motivaţie Association carries on an entire number of trainings, roundtables, and seminars, which are designed to help young people with disabilities to integrate more easily into the society. According to the organization, more than 10 thousand people with limited movement possibilities live in Moldova.
