…WHILE INDEPENDENT MPS – THEIR OWN ONE
Chisinau. The four parliamentarians that quitted the Communist faction recently – Vladimir Turcan, Victor Stepaniuc, Ludmila Belchenkova and Valentin Guznac – have lodged with the Parliament’s Permanent Bureau their own legislative initiative on amending the existing president election procedure.
The quartet’s de-facto leader, Vladimir Turcan, told a news conference in Infotag today that the proposed changes should enable electing president “without a particular noise, or complications, or a referendum”. For this, however, it is necessary to have a consolidated position of parliamentarians’ because the corresponding amendments have to be approved by 67 lawmakers.
Turcan proposed holding presidential elections in three rounds: the first two rounds presuppose the using of currently existing rules of electing president, and the 3rd one – by a simple majority of votes.
He believes that this idea, however, can be put into life only by the next Parliament, and that an early parliamentary election in 2010 is just inevitable both from political and juridical points of view.
“And a constitutional reform of such a great scale, as some politicians are proposing, is not only inappropriate but even dangerous”, said Vladimir Turcan.
He announced that the “Moldova Unită” Party of Spiritual Development [which the said 4 MPs have joined recently] will hold its extraordinary congress next Saturday, and will update its Program and Charter.
Vladimir Turcan voiced pity that far from all mass media are honestly and objectively presenting the developments around the party, so he proposed organizing a live talk show with ex-President, Communist Party Chairman Vladimir Voronin.
“So, police general, former Minister of the Interior Vladimir Turcan is inviting police general, former Minister of the Interior Vladimir Voronin for a sincere talk in order to discuss the rumors and gossips being spread around Moldova Unită. I would not even mind having [NIT television channel journalist] Constantin Staris [Voronin’s most favorite interviewer for years] as the talk show host, though I realize NIT journalists are not always objective in their reports”, Turcan said.
