HUMANISTS DEMANDING HIGHER LIVING STANDARDS
The Moldovan Humanists Party is demanding from the Government to ensure higher living standards for the Moldovan population and create proper conditions for continuous improvement of life quality.
Party leader Ion Mereuta stated at a news conference in Infotag today that the Moldovan people are severely suffering the economic crisis, with “a half of the populace living below the poverty level”.
“As no worthy life conditions have been ensured for the citizenry, the Government must embark on a monthly indexation of salaries, pensions, allowances and stipends with an account of a 10% inflation rate”, Mereuta said.
In his words, citizens are unable to manage with the grown utility rates and galloping prices. For this reason, they quit the native land for jobs abroad.
“A greater part of the population, including particularly the elderly and the youth, suffer of malnutrition. Chronically ill persons cannot afford buying necessary medicines. All this is taking place against the background of a catastrophic disproportion between moderate incomes and skyrocketing utility tariffs. As a result, the sum of monthly utility payments for a very modest apartment in Chisinau is already standing 70% above the size of pensions”, Mereuta said.
He stressed that the gap is getting deeper between the richest few and the poorest many. Consequently, many citizens, mostly men, have to migrate abroad.
“This trend leads to a split of families, to more parentless children in Chisinau, and aggravation of the general crime situation in the republic. That is why the Government must set an average pay size in the national economy at the level of 50% above the average monthly utility expenditures”, presumes the party leader.
