HUMANISTS STAND FOR BROADER WOMEN’S RIGHTS

HUMANISTS STAND FOR BROADER WOMEN’S RIGHTS

The Moldovan Humanist Party (MHP) stands for broadening women’s rights in the society and for promoting more women to high state posts.

Dr. Econ. Elena Rogozhkina, Chairperson of the MHP women’s organization, said at a news conference in Infotag that women constitute over 52% Moldova population, but their rights fail to be fully observed.

“For instance, women’s salaries and wages are 30% lower than what men are paid for analogous work, though it is a well-known fact that women need more money than men for garments and everyday expenses”, Rogozhkina said.

He further held that women constitute only 10% business managers, and only 25% parliamentarians, “so if women would not be promoted fairly to state posts or parliament, what gender equality and equal chances with men can we speak about?”

The Humanists have carried out an opinion research among 1.5 thousand women, and 72% of them stated an opinion that men in Moldova have more conditions and possibilities for manifesting themselves in business, politics and other spheres, and 68% stated there exists no gender equality in this republic.

Nearly 16% women said they are just exhausted at their jobs, 24% complained of family violence due to total ignoring of their rights at home, and 32% said they had to go abroad for jobs, which certainly tells negatively on their children and on families as a whole.

The Humanists are demanding from the authorities to substantially improve the existing legal framework to ensure pays equal to men’s for analogous jobs, and to ensure the freedom of holding state posts for the fair sex. The party also stands for increasing the monthly children’s allowance from the current 250 lei up to 2,700 lei, so as to thus improve the birth rate in the republic.
