GAGAUZIA BASHKAN WELCOMES DIRECT ELECTION OF PRESIDENT IN MOLDOVA…

GAGAUZIA BASHKAN WELCOMES DIRECT ELECTION OF PRESIDENT IN MOLDOVA…

Gagauzia Bashkan [Governor] Mikhail Formuzal welcomes a direct election of president in Moldova.

He stated at a news conference in Infotag today, “I shall come to the referendum and vote for electing our leader by the whole people”.

Mikhail Formuzal stated the Gagauzia autonomous region shall go for the referendum on September 5, and “as for the referendum boycott being organized by the Communist Party, this is a non-productive enterprise and their fatal mistake because the populace will all the same go to the polls. I know the moods of the people in Gagauzia: most of them want to elect president themselves. Such type of elections gives every citizen a chance to assess the president’s work at least once every 4 years”.

“I don’t see a single argument in favor of the communist boycott, which will only lead to serious losses for the Communist Party at the forthcoming parliamentary elections. And those parties, which are calling on citizens to support the direct presidential voting procedure, will only get extra electoral gains on the wave of the referendum they are going to win”, said Mikhail Formuzal.

In his words, the Gagauzia Popular Assembly [parliament] has no patriotic coalition any more.

“Mrs. Anna Harlamenko [Popular Assembly Speaker, a Social Democratic Party member] has joined efforts with the Communists in the forum. I have no idea how close their relations are, or how long this love will last. So far, their joint publications, statements in the press and actions resemble the unity of a violin and a bow”, said the Bashkan of Gagauzia.
