GAGAUZIA CONCERNING ABOUT REFERENDUM MECHANISM
Chairperson of the Gagauzian National Assembly (GNA) Anna Harlamenco said that conditions and procedure of holding September referendum cause some apprehensions.
In particular, assembly members are expecting to receive “guarantees of maintaining sovereignty, independence of Moldova, and its further worth development of legal system”.
“We got a cold war in place of a dialogue with the Moldovan authorities. A groundless persecution of assembly’s deputies started, a humiliation of Gagauzian legislative power and a splitting of deputy unions appeared. Gagauzian bashkan [governor] Mikhail Formuzal worsens the situation in the autonomy and the only thing he does – he plays up to the Alliance for European Integration (AEI), against population will, instead of consolidating society, of crisis overcoming and of protecting deputy corps,”, said Harlamenco.
According to her, the bashkan had no consultation with population, and said that he will boycott the referendum. “Assembly deputies before saying about boycott talked to the people”, said assembly chairperson.
“Almost all localities are presented in the GNA. Autonomy population, as well as the population of republic, wants to elect himself the state president, and I want that too. We are not against the referendum, but we can not accept its conditions and realization mechanism”, said she.
The GNA chairperson said it would be right “not to speculate in mass media the question if Moldovan population wants or not to elect directly the head of the RM, but to ask sincerely “do you agree to elect a president by 17% of population?”. “ This referendum is a general repetition of new referendums, for example, about entering in NATO or about joining to Romania”, said the deputy.
She said the NGA “does not prohibit the referendum, but is just explaining to the people, why it is so danger for the Gagauzia”.
