INDEPENDENCE WAR VETERAN ORGANIZATION DEMANDS TO STOP DISCREDITING ITS BROTHERS IN ARMS
The National Union of Independence War Veterans (NUIWV) has demanded of politicians to stop discrediting company against Dniester war veterans, among them are Ilie Ilascu, Andrei Ivantoc, Alexandru Lasco, Tudor Popa, Petru Godeac and Stefan Uritu.
On Tuesday, at executive director of the NUIWV, colonel in the reserve Gheorghe Slutu said a press conference that persons who were at Moldovan independence war are deeply exasperated by discrediting and slander campaign against Dniester war participants.
“Unfortunately, communist authorities had depreciatingly treated war veterans. No veteran got state order during 8 years. Now, even when authorities changed, some politicians and parliamentary members, including Leader of the LDPM Marian Lupu are trying to discredit veterans”, Slutu considers.
He said Lupu’ and leader of the Ravnopravie socio-political movement Valeriu Climenco’s accusations of that Ilascu group members are supposedly war criminals and they shall not be awarded are groundless and offensive for almost 33 thousand compatriots that fought for Moldova’s independence and sovereignty.
“We demand of Lupu and Climenco public excuses and disproving statements that Ilascu group members are criminals. If not, we keep the right to go to court for protecting our honor and dignity”, Slutu said.
The union leader considers that accusations of Russian high-ranking functionaries on the matter supported by Chisinau politicians are “the intervention in domestic affairs of Moldova and the encouragement of unconstitutional regime of Tiraspol”.
