HUMAN RIGHT ACTIVISTS SAY POLICE TORTURES CONTINUES, AND CRIMINALS ARE AT LARGE
The National Center for Investigation and Human Rights Defense in Moldova has said that tortures continue to be applied in police commissariats, and many criminals are at large in spite of authorities’ statements about the justice situation improvement.
Vice-chairman of the center Tudor Ciorap said he receives every day claims from people that were subjected to assault and battery in the police commissariats.
He said about Eugeniu Malasiu’s incident that the man was beaten by officers of the Riscani sector [Chisinau city district] with the purpose to receive from him the avowal of guilt in crime he did not commit.
Tudor Ciorap also said about other cases of beating and added that Moldovan courts are partial and take illegal decisions.
The Center for Investigation and Human Rights Defense in Moldova called on the Ministry of Justice, the Prosecutor General’s Office and the Ministry of Internal Affairs to reinvestigate again the cases he talked about and to punish guilty persons.
