MOCANU TO PRESENT PLAHOTNIUC’S “MAFIOSO SCHEMES” TO EUROPEAN COMMISSIONERS

“All evidence of the existence of Vladimir Plahotniuc’s mafia schemes in Moldova shall be provided to European Commissioners this week”, Sergiu Mocanu, the leader of the Popular Action Movement and former Adviser-at-Large to President Vladimir Voronin, stated at a news conference in Infotag today, which he convened to review the results of the first month of work since the onset of a “campaign against mafia in Moldova”.   

Mocan said he is waiting for the European Commissioners’ reaction to “these mafia schemes”, and expressed hope the reaction will not be long to wait. 

“During the past month, many people here were wondering if Prime Minister Vladimir Filat really stands behind this campaign. I am hereby stating with full responsibility that I do not need whatever support from political leaders. I have got an impression that in all his speeches the Premier tried to persuade Vladimir Plahotniuc that it was not at all Filat who was standing behind my statements”, said Sergiu Mocanu.    

In his opinion, the method, which the Alliance for European Integration leaders used with regard to the mafia schemes revealed by him, may be perceived only as an implication in the mafia. 

“Democratic Party Chairman Marian Lupu has already announced he is a friend of Plahotniuc’s, thus exposing himself as a supporter of the Plahotniuc’s policy. And all the rest AEI leaders have no a faintest chance to dissociate themselves from Plahotniuc”, he said.  

Mocanu maintains that the AEI leaders are committing a mistake by stating their involvement in the scandal, and “if the leaders do not wish to take measures, we will appeal to citizens who will undoubtedly force them into making it”.    

Mocanu also said he does not trust incumbent prosecution organs. He does not believe that the Republic of Moldova will ever come to have a real rule of law. 

“Until mafia has not been rooted out in Moldova, the republic shall have no future. I guess I have already provided enough evidence and statements made by people who had lost their property as a result of Plahotniuc’s mafia schemes. Meanwhile, many of those who have joined the anti-mafia campaign are now being sued by the Prosecutor General's Office. And it is only Vladimir Plahotniuc against whom the Office has not started even a single legal action”, said Mocanu.    

In his opinion, due to the situation, which Marian Lupu has got involved into with Plahotniuc, Lupu has no chance whatever to become president “because Moldovan citizens shall not let mafia into power”.
