RETIRED OFFICERS ESTABLISH ORGANIZATION
A group of Moldovan retired officers and generals have founded an Honor and Dignity Movement of power structures’ veterans.
Division general Ion Corobceanu, a former Chief of Staff, told a news conference in Infotag today that the Movement has set itself an objective to consolidate the Moldovan society and restore citizens’ trust in power structures.
“Our Movement members are well-known personalities who have served in the law enforcement and national armed forces for many years so they have a vast professional experience. They are capable of influencing the public opinion to restore the population’s trust in police and to help preserve Moldova’s sovereignty and independence”, said Ion Corobceanu.
In his opinion, the incumbent Moldovan authorities underestimate the possibilities of power structure veterans and make nothing for a reform of the judiciary, or the state security sector, or police.
“Though one can hear around many speculations about de-politicization and modernization of police, no results can be seen. On the contrary, we all can see an aggravating split of the society, growing crime, corruption and thefts”, presumes former Deputy Minister of the Interior Genadie Cosovan.
He believes that Moldovan power structures have become branches of parliamentary parties. Accordingly, genuine professionals in them are being replaced with dilettantes devoted to the authorities in power. But the most awful thing, he thinks, is that disrespect, intimidation and even threats are coming from high-ranked politicians pursuing “other objectives”, as Cosovan put it intriguingly.
Movement activists called upon political parties to stop ruining Moldova’s civil society and to reunite it, to de-politicize power structures, to let professionals serve the nation and the law, to provide proper salaries and housing to officers.
