MOLDOVAN GYPSIES SAY REFERENDUM FAILED BECAUSE OF POLITICAL CULTURE IMPERFECTION
“One of the main reasons of September-5-referendum’s failure is the political culture lack among Moldova’s citizens”, vice-head of the Social Political Movement of the Roma Ion Duminica said.
He said that many republic citizens did not know what for they should go to elections.
“Many people asked me at polling stations who for shall they vote? People could not understand they must vote for Constitutional amendment, to elect the head of the state by means of direct presidential elections’, Duminica said, and added authorities shall introduce in school programs such disciplines as political science, philosophy, psychology to improve the political culture level of citizens.
According to him, another reason of low citizens’ appearance on the referendum is that Moldova is the agrarian country.
“The referendum day most farm workers were removing corn, this year yield is good”, Duminica said.
First vice-chairman of the movement Petru Baranciuc said the referendum failure was favored by lack of a dialogue between the ruling Alliance for European Integration (AEI) and extra parliamentary political parties.
According to him, over 40 thousand Gypsies participated in the referendum, and their number surpassed the number of natives in some polling stations.
Infotag's dossier: According to statistics data, 12 thousand Gypsies live in Moldova. According to the movement of the Roma, their real number is twice more; over 100 thousand Gypsies are abroad.
