ASSOCIATION “YOUTH FOR MOLDOVA” DEMANDS SCELLES TO PRESENT APOLOGIES TO MOLDOVAN WOMEN

ASSOCIATION “YOUTH FOR MOLDOVA” DEMANDS SCELLES TO PRESENT APOLOGIES TO MOLDOVAN WOMEN

The association Youth for Moldova has demanded the Scelles Foundation to present its apologies to Moldova for recently provided information, according to which 70% Moldovan women aged 15-25 years were engaged in prostitution for at least 1 time.

At the press conference at Infotag on Wednesday, association Chair Elena Craciun said that the statement was made by Scelles President Yves Charpenel without having any objective evidence or a methodology, based on which a research was carried out.

“So far, the information is not confirmed, but it infringes upon the rights and freedoms of Moldovan citizens, especially youth, challenges not only common sense and Moldova image, but European legislation too”, Craciun said.

The association demanded Moldovan leadership to file a request to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration to officially react to and achieve disproof, as well as public apologies for the information spread by Scelles.

“Besides, we demand Ambassador Dirk Schuebel – Head of the European Union Delegation to the Republic of Moldova, as well as the French Embassy in Moldova, EU and Council of Europe leaderships to condemn irresponsible, slanderous and discriminatory attitude of some organizations of the EU countries as regards countries that aspire to join the European community”, the organization leader said.

She said that if the Scelles Foundation does not present conclusive evidences proving recent statements within 7 days, the association may sue it in international courts.

The association signed an open letter to European officials, as well as Moldovan authorities, where it calls on them to undertake all measures in the respect of Scelles statements about Moldovan women.

Infotag’s dossier: The non-governmental organization – association Youth for Moldova – was created in 2007. Its goal is to education young people of Moldova in spirits of national and international values.
