MOLDOVANS LIKE COMMUNIST PARTY THE MOST

The opposition Communist Party and its leader, ex-President of Moldova MP Vladimir Voronin appear to be the popular-most players on the Moldovan political arena, as per the research carried out on March 1-30 by the Public Opinion Foundation among 4,555 residents of various-type Moldovan populated areas. The pollsters are saying that error should not exceed ±1.5%.   

Foundation Chairman Andrei Luchian told a news conference at Infotag on Wednesday that Vladimir Voronin is favored by 43% respondents, Chisinau Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca – by 38%, Prime Minister Iurie Leanca – 37%, Democratic Party leader Marian Lupu – 29%, Liberal Democratic Party Chairman Vlad Filat – 27%, Moldovan President Nicolae Timofti – by 26%.   

The interviewed citizens said that their highest trust is in Vladimir Voronin (26.2%), Iurie Leanca (8.8%), Vlad Filat (8.3%), Dorin Chirtoaca (7.5%), Party of Socialists Secretary General Igor Dodon (4.5%), Liberal Party Chairman Mihai Ghimpu (2.8%), President Nicolae Timofti (2%).    

Among political parties and movements they like the most, 48% respondents mentioned the Communist Party, 32% – the Liberal Democratic Party, 28% – the Liberal Party, 25% – the Democratic Party, 20% – the Party of Socialists, 17% – the Anti-Mafia Movement, and 12% – the Liberal Reformist Party.

Had parliamentary elections been held next Sunday, 34.2% respondents would vote for the Communist Party, 15.2% – for the Liberal Democratic Party, 10.3% for the Liberal Party. 7.5% for the Democratic Party, and 5.1% for the Party of Socialists.    

7.1% respondents stated they were not going to go to the polls, 13.4% were uncertain, and 1.3% refused to answer anything.
