MP GRIGORE PETRENCO DEMANDS TO HEAR DEFENSE MINISTER’S EXPLANATIONS ABOUT AMERICAN MILITARY IN CHISINAU STREETS

Communist MP Grigore Petrenco has demanded to summon Defense Minister Valeriu Troenco to the Parliament’s first plenary meeting with explanations about the presence of American paratroopers in Moldova.

Petrenco stated at a news conference at Infotag on Monday that the promenades of well-built guys in American military uniforms along Chisinau streets have been kind of in disharmony with the Republic of Moldova’s constitutional neutrality fixed in the Constitution.

“The photographs of these paratroopers the “tile layers” appeared in the social networks and on the US Embassy’s website with accompanying information saying that the military have come here with a humanitarian mission – to lay tiles in the shower rooms of a local social institution. But why on earth do they sit dressed in their military uniforms in local pubs of the neutral Republic of Moldova? How many are they here, and what is their status? And what have they come here for? Do we have a humanitarian catastrophe here?” wondered the parliamentarian.

Grigore Petrenco stated confidently that with an account of the situation in region – a war in Ukraine and un unsettled conflict in Transnistria – the Chisinau authorities “are making a flagrant folly by keeping silence about the presence of the foreign military in the country and about the purpose of their coming here”.

“If American paratroopers appear on the right Dniester bank [mainland Moldova], then why Romanian ones cannot appear here? But then Russian ones can emerge in Transnistria, right? What’s the difference?” questioned the deputy.

On Monday, Grigore Petrenco sent to the Government an official inquiry demanding to explain the status of the American military, their number, the duration of their expected staying in the neutral country and the purpose of coming.

“Moldova is a neutral state. By the way, we do not need armed forces as such. Whom are we gong to war against? Transnistria? May be against Ukraine? In periods like now, we must be extremely cautious in questions like whom to invite, and in which attire such guests should be strolling along Chisinau streets”, presumes the Moldovan parliamentarian.
