EACH THIRD MOLDOVAN DOES NOT TRUST ANY POLITICAL PARTY – POLL

23 september, 2014
EACH THIRD MOLDOVAN DOES NOT TRUST ANY POLITICAL PARTY – POLL Over one-third (34.2%) of Moldova citizens appear to have no trust whatsoever in Moldovan political parties, as per the findings of the opinion poll “The Pre-Election Situation in the Republic of Moldova”, carried out by the Moldovan Political Science Association by order of the Center for Strategic Analysis and Forecasts.

Association Director Valeriu Mosneaga said at the research findings presentation in Infotag on Tuesday that 21.6% respondents stated that they are sick and tired of politics, and 11.5% want to vote for concrete candidates, not for party tickets. In his words, Moldovans want to see new faces on the political arena.

Among parliamentary parties, Moldova citizens expressed the highest trust in the opposition Moldovan Communist Party (MCP) – 24.7%, followed by the Liberal Democratic Party (10%), the Democratic Party (8%), the Liberal Party (6.9%), the Party of Socialists (6.2%), and the Liberal Reformist Party (2.1%).

Had a parliamentary election been held on a nearest Sunday, the new Moldovan Parliament would come to have 6 parties namely the Communist Party – with 28.5% ballots, the LDPM – 15.1, the PARUS – 10%, the DP – 6.8%, the Liberal Party – 6.7%, and the Party of Socialists with 6.2%. A real surprise of the opinion poll was the PARUS – the so-far unregistered Party of Renato Usatii, which appears to be so popular among the citizenry even though it would not be registered by the Ministry of Justice.

The rating of the organizations, which citizens would never vote for, is headed by the Liberal Democratic Party – 41.9%, followed by the Democratic Party – 31.9%, the Communist Party – 28.9%, and the Liberal Party – 27.9%.

As for Moldovan politicians, citizens trust most of all to the ex-President of Moldova, Chairman of the Communist Party Vladimir Voronin – 23.4%, followed by LDPM leader Vlad Filat (15.1%), businessman Renato Usatii (11.3%), DP Chairman Marian Lupu (7%), Party of Socialists leader Igor Dodon (6.4%), Prime Minister Iurie Leanca (5.8%), Chisinau Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca (3%), Liberal Party Chairman Mihai Ghimpu (2.5%), and finally Vlad Plahotniuc, Grigore Petrenco and Mihai Godea.

Valeriu Mosneaga explained Renato Usatii’s impressive growth as follows: the Moldovan people are tired of the current political class and want to have new people in power. Renato Usatii is exactly a response to this need.

The opinion poll was carried out on September 2 through 20, and involved 1,212 respondents residing in 73 various-type populated areas. The pollsters are saying that error should not exceed ±2.8%.
