MP GRIGORE PETRENCO STARTING ACTION AGAINST NATIONAL INTEGRITY COMMISSION

17 octomber, 2014
MP GRIGORE PETRENCO STARTING ACTION AGAINST NATIONAL INTEGRITY COMMISSION MP Grigore Petrenco, a Communist until very recently, is beginning a legal action against the National Integrity Commission, which he says has refused to meet his demand to investigate into the fact that oligarch Vlad Plahotniuc owns undeclared property abroad.

Petrenco stated at a news conference at Infotag on Friday that a few days ago he received the runaround from NIC Chairman Anatol Donciu.

“The runaround said that the Commission as a whole and its members in particular are in fact refusing to fulfill their official duties. Had such a thing happened in any European country, I mean refusal to check a politician’s property on the demand of a parliamentarian, such people would have to tender resignation straightaway. But our guys feel safe – like water off a duck's back, because the Commission is the pocket structure belonging personally to Vlad Plahotniuc and to the ruling coalition.

Grigore Petrenco called such behavior “fully natural and logical”.

“I learned a few days ago that a parliamentary Standing Committee, consisting of the representatives of all parliamentary factions, examined the property belonging to NIC members and Commission Chairman Donciu. It turned out that all of these civil servants, to the last one, living on our taxes, appear to have something undeclared – a car, or a bank account, or real estate or something else. That scandalous information was not published on the Parliament’s official website as the law demands – it was pigeonholed. For example, Mr. Donciu has not yet answered the question published in some media: on what income has this governmental official bought a mansion in the heart of Chisinau costing several million lei? And how is it possible to keep a person with such a dubious record on the leadership post in such a sensitive public institution – the National Integrity Commission?” wondered Grigore Petrenco.

“Since I first stated that Vlad Plahotniuc is the owner of a luxurious villa on the shore of the Lake of Geneva, which has never been declared in any of his statements of income and property, I haven’t received even the runaround from anywhere I had addressed to – from the National Anti-Corruption Center (NACC) or the Prosecutor General’s Office. I think that these two agencies, and indeed the National Integrity Commission, have failed a test for honesty. Now I am going further – to check Moldovan courts”, said Grigore Petrenco, who is a Deputy Chairperson of the Unified European Left group in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.

Infotag’s dossier: Last month, Grigore Petrenco published in the social networks several photographs featuring the above-mentioned luxurious villa on the Lake of Geneva. One of the photos showed a postbox with an inscription “Mrs. Childescu [Plahotniuc’s wife]”.
