EXPERTS SAY THAT EACH 10TH PARLIAMENTARY CANDIDATE IS PERSON WITH CRIMINAL RECORD

22 octomber, 2014
EXPERTS SAY THAT EACH 10TH PARLIAMENTARY CANDIDATE IS PERSON WITH CRIMINAL RECORD Each 10th parliamentary candidate taking part in the current election campaign is a person having a criminal record, political scientist Dr. Nicolae Tveatcov of the Moldovan Academy of Sciences, who is a representative of the Coalition “Civil Control – Elections 2014”, stated at a news conference at Infotag on Wednesday.

The Coalition has established that out of the 1,600 citizens included into parties’ electoral tickets already registered by the Central Election Commission, 171 persons were put on trial for various criminal offences, and the Communist Reformist Party and the Liberal Reformist Party have even included two persons each with criminal punishments pending.

Nicolae Tveatcov believes it is impermissible to include active participants in the April 7, 2009 disturbances into parties’ election tickets.

He referred to the example of the National Liberal Party [Vitalia Pavlicenco], in whose ticket the 5th position was given to Sergiu Lascu “who heads the National Christian Movement and is the leader of the ultra-nationalist Iron Guard organization”.

The Coalition representative indicated a definite violation of Article 13 in the Election Code – the canvassing by high-ranked state officials from ruling parties.

“Out of 90 such governmental officials in party tickets, 10 haven’t yet suspended their official duties, so they continue to use their vast administrative resources for the good of their political parties. Real leaders in this unbecoming political business are the Liberal Reformists (4 persons would not suspend their positions for the campaign period), the Liberals (2) and one candidate each from the Democratic Party, the Liberal Democratic Party, the Vozrojdenie-Renastere [Revival] party and the Patria party”, reported Nicolae Tveatcov.
