GROUP OF LIBERAL REFORMERS GO TO DEMOCRATIC PARTY

More than 20 members of the parliamentary Liberal Reformist Party from the Chisinau city bureau of the LRP have announced their accession to the Democratic Party.

They explained at a news conference at Infotag today that they had made such serious step because the LRP leadership had decided that the party should run for parliament independently, whereas a large majority of Liberal Reformers demanded to form a voting bloc with the Liberal Democratic Party or the DP.

“Our ideas differ from those of the LRP leadership’s. We realize that the Liberal Reformist Party has few chances to get to parliament. Therefore, for the sake of pro-European forces and for continuing the European integration course, much more efforts are necessary. In this connection, Democratic Party leader Marian Lupu called upon small parties to accede to the DP team to continue the reforms, and we agree with this call”, said Vasile Grama, an LRP member of the Chisinau Municipal Council [city legislature].

In his words, the Democratic Party has showed itself as a strong and reliable organization quite capable of governing the country.

“Our decision was not spontaneous. We’ve held consultations and talks with the head of the DP city organization Pavel Filip. I confess the conversation with him was a pleasure for all of us, and we took our final decision”, said the municipal council.

The new Democrats announced that in the nearest future, many more members of the Liberal Reformist Party will quit the organization.
