MIHAIL FORMUZAL SUSPENDED HIS CANVASSING TO REMAIN GOVERNMENT MEMBER – BLOC CO-CHAIRMAN

03 november, 2014
MIHAIL FORMUZAL SUSPENDED HIS CANVASSING TO REMAIN GOVERNMENT MEMBER – BLOC CO-CHAIRMAN The Party of Regions Chairman, Bashkan [Governor] of Gagauzia Mihail Formuzal has suspended his participation in the parliamentary campaign only for a short time so as to return to his duties of the head of the southern Moldovan autonomous region of Gagauzia and of a member of the Moldovan Government, Oleg Topolnitchi, Head of the Balti city subdivision of the Social Democratic Party and Co-Chairman of the voting bloc “Moldova’s Choice for the Customs Union” stated at a news conference at Infotag today.

Topolnitchi said that the decision to quit the campaigning was caused by the insistent requests of bloc supporters to demand from the Moldovan authorities to open more polling stations in Russia. And Gagauzia Bashkan, being a member of the Moldovan Government, can promote the solution of this problem as nobody else in the voting bloc.

The bloc Co-Chairman explained that rumors about Formuzal’s decision to return to government member’s duties are being misinterpreted by the leading mass media belonging to the leaders of political parties in power, in particular of the Democratic Party and Liberal Democratic Party.

“We are dangerous election rivals, and the authorities are trying to split up our voting bloc by resorting to all kinds of tricks and devices. Unfortunately, the recent incident, which happened on the Ukrainian border on November 1, when Bashkan Formuzal was not let to the village of Vinogradovka in the Odessa oblast [region] of Ukraine, populated mostly by ethnic Gagauzes, was regarded by us as evidence that the Chisinau authorities have entered into an agreement with the Ukrainian authorities”, said the voting bloc co-chairman.

Oleg Topolnitchi presumes that the Party of Socialists [headed by Igor Dodon] “may well be participating in this scheme of opposing to the bloc “Moldova’s Choice for the Customs Union”.

“The Socialists’ main goal is not to save the unity of Left forces and not to bring Moldova into the Customs Union, but to win seats in parliament. Mihail Formuzal remains with us, and we shall take part in the elections as a consolidated bloc”, assured Topolnitchi.
