LDPM AND DP MAINTAIN LEAD IN ELECTORAL VIOLATIONS – CIVIL CONTROL

13 november, 2014
LDPM AND DP MAINTAIN LEAD IN ELECTORAL VIOLATIONS – CIVIL CONTROL The two main forces of power – the Liberal Democratic Party and the Democratic Party – are leading by the number of violations in the election race 17 days before its end, the chairman of the non-governmental organization “Civil Control – Elections 2014”, political scientist Dr. Nicolae Tveatcov of the Moldovan Academy of Sciences stated at a news conference at Infotag today.

According to the information collected and documented by the Civil Control, LDPM leader Vlad Filat personally came to Tirnova village (Donduseni Raion), went to the local school and started distributing propaganda materials about his party among schoolchildren, which was a gross violation of Article 13 in the Law on the Rights of the Child.

“Yet another leader in this law breaching race is the First Deputy Chairman of the Democratic Party, Vlad Plahotniuc, who attended recently the opening of a repaired subdivision at the National Mother and Child Health Center under the dubious pretext that he is the owner of the Edelweiss Foundation that had given money for the repair works”, said Nicolae Tveatcov.

He criticized the Democrats for sticking DP leaflets on the fence of a mental hospital in the Edinet Raion and even on the hospital’s main entrance door.

The sticking of posters and leaflets in improper places are practiced also by other election runners – the Vozrojdenie-Renastere [Revival], the Party of Socialists (PSRM), which use for this purpose electric poles, fences and even trees.

The experts called upon the international observers, who have already come to Moldova to monitor the election campaign, to fix these and other breaches of the electoral legislation.

Nicolae Tveatcov went on saying that the Liberal Democrats came to Puhoi village (Ialoveni Raion) and started giving frozen fish to local residents. And Grigore Iantov, Advisor to Director of the state-run Registru center for informational resources, demanded from employees not solely to vote for the Democratic Party, but also compelled each employee to bring minimum 20 voters to polling stations who would vote for DP.

Tveatcov voiced bewilderment over the strange passiveness of the Central Election Commission and the Prosecutor General’s Office over these and numerous other instances of violations taking place in various Moldovan localities.

“We have had a lot of telephone talks with the CEC Chairman and members, have sent our 3 reports to them. We run a special website where information about violations is systematically updated, but we have seen no reaction from the CEC whatsoever. This is very strange to see in a country whose leaders call themselves ‘law-abiding Europeans’”, said the organization head.
