OVER QUARTER OF MOLDOVANS WILL FINALLY DECIDE ONLY ON ELECTION DAY – POLL Nearly 27% Moldova citizens will decide whom to vote for only on the parliamentary election day of November 30, as per the research of the evolution of electoral preferences carried out by the Center for Sociological Researches of Moldova (CSRM) on its own initiative and for its own financial means.

The poll was carried out on November 11 through 21 among 1,050 Moldova citizens eligible to vote, who reside in 74 various-type localities across the republic. The pollsters are saying that error should not exceed ±3%.

Center Director Sergiu Raevschi said at the research result presentation in Infotag on Monday that such a considerable proportion of uncertain voters has been mainly due to the citizens’ growing disappointment about the Moldovan political class.

The CSRM poll showed that the next Moldovan Parliament will consist of the representatives of 5 political parties: the Communist Party (which is likely to win 17.2% ballots next Sunday), the Liberal Democratic Party (15.2%), the Democratic Party (13%), the Patria Party (8.2%), and the Liberal Party (6.5%).

According to this poll, the Party of Socialists may count only on 4.7% votes, the Liberal Reformist Party – on 4.3%, and the Popular Anti-Mafia Movement – on 1.4%.

Sergiu Raevschi said that 24% respondents identify themselves to be a communist electorate, 16% – socialist, 20% – democratic, and 28% – a liberal electorate.

The interviewed citizens demonstrated the highest trust in the incumbent Moldovan Prime Minister, First Deputy Chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party Iurie Leanca (42%), who is followed by the Chisinau Mayor and First Deputy Chairperson of the Liberal Party Dorin Chirtoaca (36%), Democratic Party leader Marian Lupu (29%), Communist Party leader Vladimir Voronin (28%), Liberal Democratic Party Chairman Vlad Filat (25%), Parliament Speaker Igor Corman (22%), businessman Renato Usatii (22%).

The least respect was shown for First Deputy Chairman of the Democratic Party Vlad Plahotniuc, who is distrusted by 87% respondents, for Party of Socialists leader Igor Dodon (81%), Liberal Party Chairman Mihai Ghimpu (78%), and former Prime Minister Ion Sturza (78%).

The poll has shown that 41% Moldovans stand up for approximation with the European Union, 34% – with the Customs Union and with Russia, and 24% respondents were uncertain.

45% respondents believe that Moldova’s strategic partner is the European Union, and 35% – that it is Russia.

The research has revealed also that the strained situation in this region of Europe upon the whole has led to a growth of the number of Moldova citizens who are standing for Moldova’s accession to NATO. Had a referendum on joining the North Atlantic Alliance been held next Sunday, 32% citizens would vote for accession to NATO, 35% – against this, and 33% are uncertain.
