SYRIAN REFUGEE SAYS MOLDOVAN AUTHORITIES DENY HIM CITIZENSHIP

SYRIAN REFUGEE SAYS MOLDOVAN AUTHORITIES DENY HIM CITIZENSHIP Osama Hmiames, a refugee from Syria, complains about obstacles put by Moldovan authorities, who refuse to provide him Moldovan citizenship already during 12 years. He said during Friday’s news conference at Infotag that he came in Moldova in 2002 and in 2003 received the status of refugee.

“Within the period of 12 years I married a Moldovan woman, created a family and opened a small enterprise on making and selling clothes in Bender. All these years I have regularly been paying all taxes and got not a fine”, said Hmiames, adding that in order to further live and work without problems, he needs to obtain citizenship.

According to him, after he passed all the exams for citizenship, in his documents was written that he is dangerous for the country and society.

“I challenged this decision in the court. There were three court hearings, but their decisions were the same. Meanwhile, all my documents are in order and are registered both in Bender and in Chisinau. If the documents, issued after exams say that I am dangerous for the country and society, then why authorities did not arrest me, but allowed to open business and live in Moldova?”, wonders Hmiames.

He addressed to Moldovan authorities with a demand to provide him citizenship and let him live in the country.

“I do not want to leave to Europe, where one can get all the necessary documents within three months. I want to live and work in Moldova, where I have business and family, as well as I want to be a citizen like all others”, said Hmiames.
