CANDIDATE SUGGESTS FORMING “SUPRA-POLITICAL FRONT” FOR SOLVING AUTONOMY’S KEY PROBLEMS… Ex-MP Oleg Garizan, who is standing for Bashkan [Governor] in the southern Moldovan autonomous region of Gagauzia, organized a news conference at Infotag on Friday and, inter alia, stood up with a proposal to create in Gagauzia “a supra-political front” for solving the important-most problems faced by citizens.

Oleg Garizan said that the chief objectives now are to revive the region’s economy, develop education and culture, and strengthen the autonomy’s international friendly ties.

“Our duty is to consolidate the society and channel our activities into the development of our dear Gagauzia and of our sacred Moldova. After we finally de-block trade relations with the Eurasian Economic Union [EAES], we will then consolidate ties with Turkey, and will bring our children and grandchildren back home”, said the candidate.

…BLAMES COMMUNIST PARTY FOR ENGAGING IN INTRIGUES INSTEAD OF DOING REAL JOB

The Communist Party (MCP) is carrying on intrigues and is prosecuting dissidents, instead of using precious time for lifting the trade embargo on Moldovan good, combating crime and corruption, and defending Moldova’s statehood and identity, former Communist MP Oleg Garizan stated at the news conference at Infotag.

He believes that the Communist Party is moving towards its self-liquidation, “which process is becoming a destabilizing, anti-state factor”.

“Moldova's economy is on the brink of a catastrophe. The European Union, despite all its promises, would open its markets for Moldova-made goods. Gagauzia, being an agricultural region, is suffering the broken trade relations with Russia more than anybody. Our main objective nowadays is to restore and further develop economic relations with the Eurasian Economic Union (EAES) and with friendly Turkey, which is more oriented to the Eastern market”, said Oleg Garizan.

In his words, citizens are asking where they are being dragged into by the pro-European coalition and its new ally – the once opposition Communist Party.

Commenting the Thursday’s sayings by Liberal Democratic Party Chairman Vlad Filat – that Russia is allegedly interfering into Moldova’s domestic affairs, Garizan said that over last several election campaigns, various foreign politicians have been showing considerable interest to the Republic of Moldova.

“Let’s recollect German Chancellor Angela Merkel who was so particular about developments in Moldova, or Romanian Ambassador Marius Lazurca, who stated that Bucharest would be closely following the Moldovan Government’s activities”, or many other high-ranked foreign visitors. Let’s hope that all this is just their sincere caring about Moldova, nothing else”, said the ex-parliamentarian.

Commenting on the Briefing Book prepared by Moldova’s development partners, Oleg Garizan opinioned that no advise or recommendations can help establish order in the country if the political class does not want it.

“The Moldovan Governments’ lineups did not particularly change over last 5 years and, traditionally, nobody cared particularly about corruption or other vital problems. We failed to do anything essential last several years, so how can we do everything next 100 days? I guess it is not correct when foreigners set us certain timeframes”, presumes the candidate.

Infotag’s dossier: Earlier this week, the Communist Party leadership disbanded the Party’s raion committee in the Ceadir-Lunga Raion that was headed by Oleg Garizan. The committee chairman was expelled from the party leadership for his participation in the gubernatorial elections in Gagauzia. Yet earlier, the Ceadir-Lunga raion committee of the MCP strongly criticized the MCP leaders for their cooperation with the Liberal Democratic Party and Democratic Party, and for the Communist faction’s participation in electing the Parliament leadership and working bodies and for forming the new Government. The Communists in Ceadir-Lunga were not alone in suffering such harsh treatment by Chisinau bosses: the MCP leadership has disbanded also party organizations in the raions of Vulcanesti, Comrat and Edinet.
