OPINION POLL REVEALS GROWING NUMBER OF DISCONTENTED MOLDOVANS…        The number of citizens discontented with their living standards and the country’s development direction is growing in Moldova, as per the Omnibus opinion poll, carried out on February 22 through March 4 by the CBS-AXA Center for Sociological Researches and Marketing and presented at Infotag on Monday.

 

According to the poll, 72% citizens think that their country is moving in a wrong direction and only 19% believe that Moldova is on a correct track. The proportion of the discontented grew up 2% over the last month, though the same growth was among those happy about the country’s development direction. And as many as 84% citizens are discontented with the economic situation in the republic, said CBS-AXA Director Ion Jigau.

 

Citizens of Moldova are concerned the most about price growth – 52.3%, about poverty – 50.6%, corruption 39.5%, children’s uncertain future 37.9%, unemployment 34.3%, possible war in the region 17.9%.

 

The poll covered 1,834 adult residents of 84 populated areas in 12 raions [districts] of Moldova. The pollsters are saying that error should not exceed ±3%.

 

…AND FALLING POPULARITY RATING OF POLITICAL PARTIES

 

The popularity rating of the political parties, which have formed the minority government, keeps falling, as per the Omnibus opinion poll, carried out on February 22 through March 4 by the CBS-AXA Center.

 

According to CBS-AXA Director Ion Jigau, the only organization, whose popularity rating has grown over the past month, is the Liberal Party, with 12.7% citizens ready to vote for it, against 10.4% a month before.

 

The same 12.7% rating is with the Party of Socialists, but this figure is 1.3% lower than was a month ago.

 

Asked which party they would vote for should elections be held next Sunday, 12.5% respondents said – for the Communist Party (a month before – 13.7%), 9.7% – for the Liberal Democratic Party (12.8%), 5% – for the Democratic Party (8.8%), 5.7% – for Renato Usatii party (7%), and 2.7% stated readiness to vote for the would-be party of Iurie Leanca.

 

The previous prime minister is maintaining lead in the rating of trust in Moldovan politicians: 9.6% citizens trust Iurie Leanca. Party of Socialists leader Igor Dodon has a trust rating of 8%, Communist Party Chairman Vladimir Voronin – 6.6%, Liberal Party Chairman Mihai Ghimpu – 4%, Democratic Party leader Marian Lupu – 3.7%, Chisinau Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca – 3.6%, Liberal Democratic Party Chairman Vlad Filat – 3.3%. And nearly 48% Moldovans stated they did not trust in any politician at all.

 

According to the Omnibus poll, only about 30% interviewed citizens are interested in politics to a greater of lesser extent, nearly 25% show poor interest to the issue and 14.5% are disinterested in politics at all. Despite this, more than 73% respondents would go to the polls had an election been held next Sunday.

 

Asked what they think led to leu depreciation and to financial situation destabilization, 63.3% citizens said “dirty games by certain groups close to the country leadership”, 40.6% said “the National Bank’s erroneous policy”, 40% – problems in the Banca de Economii a Moldovei [savings bank, BEM], Banca Sociala and Unibank, 35.1% – political instability caused by the absence of government, 20% – the embargo on Moldovan exports to the Russian Federation, 17.7% – depreciation of the Russian ruble and of the Ukrainian hryvna, and 16.9% – war in eastern Ukraine.
