GRIGORE PETRENCO COMES TO HEAD “OUR HOME IS MOLDOVA” PARTY

14 april, 2015
GRIGORE PETRENCO COMES TO HEAD “OUR HOME IS MOLDOVA” PARTY Grigore Petrenco, a member of the previous Parliament and a noticeable Communist Party personality until last year, has become chairman of a political party called “Our Home is Moldova” (OHM).

Petrenco stated at a news conference at Infotag today that the organization’s main goal is to create an alternative at the Left political segment.

“There were times when the Communist Party [MCP] used to unite the supporters of the Left idea around itself. Presently, the MCP has been in fact ruined. Its leadership and personally Chairman Vladimir Voronin have committed a betrayal of voters’ interests by forming the Gaburici Government in concert with the Liberal Democrats and Democrats. Last year, the MCP leadership threw out from the party all those members who used to struggle against oligarchs now forming the Moldovan authorities. Now the MCP is being quitted by individuals, groups of members and even by whole raion [district] organizations. I think that at the forthcoming June local elections the Communist Party will poll less than even at the November 30, 2014 parliamentary elections, and will thus continue disappearing from the political arena”, said Grigore Petrenco.

He believes that the electorate, which had traditionally voted for the Communists over last two decades, will now begin turning their faces to the OHM, “which is able and willing to defend and promote their interests”.

“We are open to cooperation with those forces, which haven’t stained themselves with collaboration with the incumbent criminal regime of Plahotniuc-Filat-Voronin”, said Grigore Petrenco.

In his words, the OHM, registered in 2010, currently has 4.5 thousand members.

“We shall take part in the June 14 local elections. We have no money, but we have serious goals, healthy ideas and a great desire to achieve what we have projected. The main objective at the moment is to eliminate the incumbent criminal power in Moldova by means of legal, democratic procedures”, said Grigore Petrenco.

Touching on the OHM’s external political objectives, the Chairman said that the chief of them is to preserve the Republic of Moldova’s “strict neutrality status”.

“We stand against Moldova’s approximation with NATO. At the same time we believe that the republic should develop relations both with the European Union and with Russia. However, we stand up for developing ties with the [Russia-led] Eurasian Economic Union (EAES), and we demand denunciation of the EU-Moldova Association Agreement, which is downgrading Moldova into a colony”, stated the former member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.

Infotag’s dossier: The “Our Home is Moldova” (OHM) party was registered on September 16, 2010 in the result of re-registration of the Citizens Association “Our Home is Chisinau”, headed by Oleg Onischenko, who continued heading the OHM until April 2015. “Our Home is Moldova” is a left-centrist party with a robust social democratic ideology.
