CHISINAU AUTHORITIES IGNORE ENVIRONMENTAL PROBLEMS – ENVIRONMENTALISTS

24 april, 2015
CHISINAU AUTHORITIES IGNORE ENVIRONMENTAL PROBLEMS – ENVIRONMENTALISTS Environmentalists believe that Chisinau authorities ignore environmental problems and do not take into account scientists’ researches.

Chairman of the Chisinau Territorial Organization of Moldova environmental movement Vladimir Garaba said at a press conference that “from 2011 to 2014, 1.6 million tons of waste was exported in the quarry Purcel”.

According to him, “this is the biggest unauthorized dump in Europe”.

“The area of green plantings in Chisinau decreased by 15-20 hectares for a year” - said the ecologist.

He noted that “all environmental problems of the municipality are published in the second edition of "the Black book”, which presents solution methods for local authorities and the Ministry of Environment".

Garab believes that “the main problems of environmental pollution are wastes that couldn't be taken out; the Bic River; air pollution; lack of strategies to protect the environment”.

In his words, “the solution would be the waste recycling plant construction in Chisinau, until that time, the debris should be disposed in Tintareni”.

“The Black book” environmentalists will give to the Chisinau Primaria [city government] and the Ministry of Environment,” said Garaba, but he is not sure that they will get a response, especially on the eve of the election campaign.

He hopes that “the society and the authorities will hear the call of environmentalists and will take measures to protect the environment.”
