ALEXANDRU SLUSARI SAYS FARMERS PREPARE UNPLEASANT SURPRISE TO AUTHORITIES During agriculture producers’ protests, which will take place all around the country on May 27, authorities will get unpleasant surprises, said Alexandru Slusari, Chairman of the National Union of Agricultural Producers' Associations UniAgroProtect during Monday’s news conference at Infotag.

He said that organizers of protests – heads of four countries major agricultural organizations, clearly understood that the authorities do not want to engage in a dialog with farmers.

“The Government is reluctant about negotiating with agriculture producers. We are not heard and not understood. No counter-arguments were given to us on requirements, put forward to the Government, while around the raised problems - VAT rate lowering, Polish credit mastering, doubling Subsidy fund, incessant political games are being conducted. Since the March 27 and April 15 protest actions, the authorities did nothing to help us”, he concluded.

Slusari said that statements of certain media outlets and biased experts about the fact that agrarians’ actions have a political character are nonsense.

“We do not promote interests of any political party; the agrarians are protecting just their economic needs, as the situation in the industry is catastrophic. The agricultural sector is financially supported by the Government in all the civilized countries but Moldova. Currently, we do not have money for pesticides, fuel, for quality seed stock. And the most important is that we do not know what awaits us; meanwhile the time of spring field works has already come. Agrarians have nothing else to do than go for protest action”, said Slusari.

He added that despite the ban on entry to Chisinau Central Square for tractors, there will be found methods to block all the exits from the capital on May 27.

“It is not just about tractors; we have a lot of other machinery: combiners, seeders, personal vehicles. The authorities should get ready for surprises. However, we will give them a month to begin the dialog on our demands”, said the Head of the UniAgroProtect.

Infotag’s dossier: Moldovan agricultural producers demand raising of the Agricultural Subsidy Fund to 1.2 billion lei; 8% VAT on the products for sale; financial assistance to all the producers of fruit, who provided apples for processing in autumn 2014; establishing of 1% interest rate on 100 million euros credit, provided by Poland for modernization of Moldovan animal husbandry sector; de-monopolization of the petroleum products’ market.
