CIVIL PLATFORM DA CALLS TO PROTESTING AND CONSOLIDATION The Civil Platform “Demnitate si Adevar” [DA, “Dignity and Justice”] is calling citizens to protests, mobilization and consolidation.

DA activities stated at a news conference at Infotag on Wednesday that this is precisely what they will be putting emphasis on at the massive rally in Chisinau next Sunday and at all subsequent actions.

“We must invigorate protests in the country so as to achieve justice, including justice in what concerns the siphoning off a billion euros of the Moldovan people’s money from Moldovan banks. We believe that the ‘architects’ of this ‘robbery of the century’ were the leaders of our ruling parties themselves. We must get mobilized to show that we are many and we shall be working to achieve the fulfillment of our demands. And, finally, we must get consolidated. Irrespective of our ethnic, language or whatever other differences, we must get united against our common evil – the corrupt authorities”, stated one of the Platform leaders, political scientist Dr. Igor Botan, Chairman of the Association for Participatory Democracy (ADEPT).

Speaking of money stealing from the Moldovan banking system, Botan stressed that the authorities have recognized the theft fact, but are doing nothing to return the money.

“They have already admitted that one-third of the stolen money can be brought back, and that two-thirds they will transform into a national debt to thus make us the taxpayers repay the money. We can’t just sit and watch them robbing us. It is obvious that the culprits will not start punishing themselves”, said Igor Botan.

He stressed that foreign partners that used to help Moldova so actively are now refusing to help. The International Monetary Fund would not conclude a new cooperation Memorandum with Moldova – until the problem of the three problematic banks is resolved.

The Platform representatives said that the June 7 rally will be held under the same demand – resignation of the incumbent authorities. The rally will repeat for the last time its ultimatum demand to discharge the heads of those public institutions that had a direct relation to the siphoning off money from the banking system – the prosecutor general, the National Bank president, the National Anti-Corruption Center (NACC) director, and the Accounts Chamber chairman.
