CULTURE WORKERS CALL ON MOLDOVANS TO COME OUT FOR PROTESTS ON JUNE 7 Singers and culture workers expressed their outrage by the situation in the country and called Moldovan citizens to come to a protest, organized by the Civil Platform “Demnitate si Adevar” [DA, “Dignity and Justice”] on June 7.

Singer Catalin Josan said during Tuesday’s news conference at Infotag that culture representatives of Moldova are disappointed by the current country’s authorities.

“We have written an open letter to MPs and to the Government, while its copies will be sent to all the foreign diplomatic missions in Moldova. We demand the appointment of people with pro-European views to positions of the Prosecutor General, Head of the National Anti-Corruption Center, the National Anticorruption Commission, the Audiovisual Coordinating Council and only after consultations with the population. Also we demand punishing those guilty of ‘the theft of the century’; covering of all the losses at their expense and preventing the transformation of the stolen money in the state debt”, he said.

People’s Artist of Moldova Stefan Petrache said that a political and economic catastrophe is aggravating in the country and it is not the population, who has to be concerned, but the authorities.

“Chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova (LDPM) Vlad Filat fell into Vlad Plahotniuc’s trap of and now regrets about this. Every government has stolen, but not at such a scale. Let these authorities leave after them at least green grass, but not transform the country into a desert with no sign of life”, Petrache said.

He said there are two methods to solve problems in the country.

“The first is to come with pitchforks and drive out the today’s government by force, but this is illegal and not democratic. The second way is to unite and come out to protest. This is why we call for everyone to come to protest action on Sunday”, Petrache said.

Violinist Corneliu Botgros expressed regret that young talents are leaving the country, getting disappointed in Moldova’s pro-European future.

People’s Artist of Moldova Ion Paulenco said that the people was sold and betrayed, while the reason for so much stealing in the country is because there is no culture or good manners here.

He urged people to wake up and come to the protest to fight for their future.

Another People’s Artist Petru Racovita said that currently the power is held by a gang that does not differ much from the one from 1990’s.

“How much money can be stolen under the pretext of conducting reforms? How long will people stay silent like a flock of sheep? How can employees of the justice system and law enforcement endure mockery? We need to unite and find solutions for problems but not keep silence and suffer”, he said.

News conference participants said they are not going to intervene in the country’s policy, however they can not stay ignorant.
