BELGIAN AMBASSADOR BELIEVES CHISINAU MUST CREATE CONDITIONS FOR INVESTORS TO COME… The Moldovan authorities must create special conditions for investors to come to Moldova and work efficiently and comfortably here, believes the Bucharest-based Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belgium to Moldova, Philippe Beke.

The diplomat said at a news conference in Infotag on Wednesday that, for instance, in Ungheni town the rate of unemployment is 3%, which he believes is too much, so only very few investors would risk opening their businesses there.

Philippi Bekke believes the improvement of investment climate depends on officials responsible for the country’s economic policy, and in this sense Moldova could well take example from Romania, where there is a special platform where employers can discuss problems directly with the Government.

In his opinion, to improve the investment climate, it is necessary to follow the European Commission’s recommendations, to have political stability and a developed infrastructure, and the authorities must be talented administrators.

Ambassador Bekke pointed out that Moldova has many possibilities for exports and for attracting investment, and a proof to this are the 44 Belgian companies who work in Moldova producing goods both for the local market and for exports.

Besides the opening of companies and attracting of investments in Moldova, Belgium has implemented many projects in the spheres public health, culture and water supply within the framework of bilateral cooperation.

Belgium’s Honorable Consul at Moldova Luc Engelen said that over the 18 years of his staying in Moldova, he has opened his own production business here. And on the whole, investors from Belgium have created 2.5 thousand jobs in Moldova.

The Honorable Consul believes that one of the main problems standing in the way of investments and economy development in Moldova is migration. To put an end to it, the Moldovan Government should create conditions that would attract people – workers and investors.

“Moldova’s advantage is that it is situated between the West and the East, which circumstance offers considerable possibilities for the republic, and Moldova should use them”, said the consul.

…AND THAT BANK MONEY STEALERS MUST BE PUNISHED

The Bucharest-based Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belgium to Moldova, Philippe Beke, thinks that the people responsible for the story with three Moldovan banks must be punished.

The diplomat said at the news conference in Infotag that the American detective agency Kroll’s investigation must be continued to establish all people responsible for money siphoning off from the country. And of course the culprits have no right to remain in power.

Ambassador Bekke believes the Moldovan authorities should continue the implementation of the EU-Moldova Association Agreement and proceed with the judiciary reform.

Moldova has already achieved certain successes, in particular a visa-free regime with the European Union. However, the hardest job is still ahead, but this is a soluble task, said Ambassador Philippi Bekke, who is accomplishing his diplomatic mission to Moldova.
