“PEOPLE’S LIST” CALLS ON CITIZENS NOT TO VOTE FOR EITHER OF CANDIDATES FOR CHISINAU MAYOR

“PEOPLE’S LIST” CALLS ON CITIZENS NOT TO VOTE FOR EITHER OF CANDIDATES FOR CHISINAU MAYOR The voting bloc “People’s List”, whose representatives failed to win even a single seat in the Chisinau Municipal Council [city legislature] at the June 14 elections, has called on Chisinau citizens not to vote for either of the two finalists at the election’s second round due on June 28.

Bloc leader Igor Caldare, who polled 565 ballots (0.19%) in the first round, stated at a news conference at Infotag on Tuesday that the People’s List is not going to lose heart and shall continue struggling against lawlessness and disorder in the capital city.

“As a result of our actions of protest, several essential questions were resolved, and a criminal litigation was started against Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca, Municipal Council Secretary Valeriu Didenco and against those Council members who voted for adopting land distribution decisions at the Council’s last meeting before the elections”, he said.

As already reported by Infotag, at that last meeting before its dissolution, the Municipal Council approved about 800 municipal decisions by a single raising of hands, and nearly 600 of them were decisions to sell city lands to various individuals. Needless to say that the outgoing councilors had no time for discussing such trifles as prices for the land plots.

“Why are we calling upon citizens not to vote for Dorin Chirtoaca? Because over the 8 years of his mayorship, the economic and social situation in Chisinau has only deteriorated. The mayor acted only to his own advantage. Municipal councilors representing Chirtoaca’s Liberal Party voted often together with the Communists. Struggle against corruption was only in words or on paper, and in the reality the Chisinau Primaria has become the most corrupt agency in the country, where people are enrolled to the municipal service without whatever professionalism contests, and where chief posts are given to Liberal Party members or useful helpers”, said the human right activist.

According to Igor Caldare, Dorin Chirtoaca is an essential figure of a Mafioso clan, and it was exactly by the decision of Vlad Plahotniuc that on June 7 Mayor Chirtoaca refused to give the city’s central square to the Civil Platform “Demnitate si Adevar” [DA, “Dignity and Justice”] for holding a massive rally of protest.

The ex-candidate also urged Chisinau residents not to vote for Party of Socialists candidate Zinaida Grechanaya, either, whom he accused of having a relation to leaving the city’s largest National hotel without an owner and, as a result, the huge 18-storey building in the city’s main street is decaying little by little.

Caldare maintains that Zinaida Grechanaya is not independent in her decisions or actions, that she is manipulated by certain forces and personalities, so she will be doing only what she is told.

In his words, citizens have been left without a choice because none of the candidates is good for the capital city.
