DA PLATFORM CALLS SOCIETY TO ACTIONS OF PROTEST

The Civil Platform “Demnitate si Adevar” [DA, “Dignity and Justice”] is calling on the Moldovan society to consolidation and to actions of protest against the incumbent authorities, DA leaders stated at a news conference at Infotag on Tuesday.

Former Deputy Prime Minister Valentin Dolganiuc, a member of Moldova’s first Parliament, said:  “We see that the country is plunging into complete lawlessness. There is no government. Known thieves keep on stealing. Under the cloak of night, a decision was railroaded on pushing up energy tariffs, which will only lead to further impoverishment of the Moldovan population. In such a situation, we must get consolidated and stand up like a united front against the incumbent authorities.

Another DA leader, political scientist Dr. Igor Botan, Chairman of the Association for Participatory Democracy (ADEPT) stated that the three political parties, calling themselves “pro-European”, have no chances whatever to form a stable governing coalition.

“To understand the political essence of these parties, it is necessary to simply read their program documents, including their election programs. To form a coalition, its constituent forces should simply unite their election programs and start fulfilling what they have promised to the nation. But this is just impossible because the said three programs are incompatible. For example, the Liberals have promised to make Moldova a NATO member country, whereas the Democrats are categorically against this. What coalition can they talk about with such differences in outlooks?” wondered Igor Botan.

The DA leaders stated they would be organizing protest actions regularly to keep up the flame that must develop into a mass protesting that will eventually overthrow the current authorities.

On Monday, the DA Platform organized a protest action in the heart of Chisinau – before the monument to Moldova’s medieval Gospodar [King] Stefan cel Mare. The action gathered 150-200 people.

Botan said:  “This is only the first step. We shall continue. There will be one more action of protest on Wednesday. We are calling on all citizens to join it. Our actions will be peaceful and orderly. We will welcome all citizens no matter their political outlooks”.
