POPULATION’S TRUST IN AUTHORITIES AND POLITICAL PARTIES SHRANK - POLL People’s trust in authorities and political parties has drastically fallen, show the data of sociological poll, conducted by the Center of Sociological Research and Marketing CBS-AXA.

 

CBS-AXA Project Director Vasile Kantarji said during Tuesday’s news conference at Infotag that the poll has been conducted within the period of September 10-18, during which 1108 people from 13 Moldovan raions were canvassed.

 

“According to the results of the poll, the country’s population trusts Moldovan President – 4%; Parliament -5%, Government – 6%, justice system – 7%. Most of respondents trust the church – 78%, primarias [local government authorities] – 48%, media – 45%”, Kantarji said.

 

To the question about Moldovan politicians respondents trust the most, they said: Renato Usatii – 31%, Igor Dodon – 29%, Dorin Chirtoaca – 28%, Iurie Leanca – 22%, Andrei Nastase – 28%, Oazu Nantoi – 15%, Vladimir Voronin – 15%, Marian Lupu – 11%, Valeriu Strelet – 11%. The lowest trust people have in Vlad Plahotniuc – 2%.

 

In terms of most trusted parties, Partidul Nostru [Our Party] is leading with 31%. It is followed by the Civil Platform “Demnitate si Adevar” [DA, “Dignity and Justice”] - 23%, Party of Socialists – 21%, European People's Party of Moldova - 19%, Communist Party – 14%. The least trust people have in Liberal Reformist Party – 3.1% and in Social Democratic Party – 0.4%.

 

Director of CBS-AXA sociological department Ion Jigau said that it is for the first time in a long while the level of people’s trust in authorities is so low. Besides, he pointed at the radicalization of protesting moods among people, who are more than ever before ready to come out for massive protests and even for riots.

 

“All this should raise concerns. The trust in authorities has never before been lower than 10%. The current situation demonstrates extreme dissatisfaction of people with the level and quality of life, shows their desire to change something in the society”, Jigau said.
