EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT AND COUNCIL OF EUROPE REPRESENTATIVES DEMAND GRIGORE PETRENCO’S RELEASING

15 january, 2016
EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT AND COUNCIL OF EUROPE REPRESENTATIVES DEMAND GRIGORE PETRENCO’S RELEASING Four representatives of the European Parliament and of the Council of Europe demand releasing of politician Grigore Petrenco under their personal guarantee, said Anna Ursachi, lawyer of the “Our Home is Moldova” (OHM) party leader.

At the Friday’s news conference at Infotag, she said that the guarantees were given by European Parliament members Helmut Scholz and Gabrielle Zimmer, as well as German Bundestag MPs Tiny Kox and Andrej Hunko.

“Sholz and Hunko visited Moldova already after Petrenco was arrested and know very well the hidden motive of this case. Such guarantees of high European officials are an unprecedented case in the history of Moldovan justice. I can hardly imagine how Moldovan judges may justify their decision to reject European officials. Even if something like this happens, it will one more time confirm the statement, many times made by Petrenco himself: the Moldovan justice is captured, as well as the whole country, by oligarch Vlad Plahotniuc”, Ursachi said.

According to her, two articles of the Moldovan Civil Procedure Code provide releasing of the person on remand under the guarantee of authoritative persons.

“However, this norm is somehow not working in relation to politician Petrenco. Two Moldovan MPs gave Personal guarantees for him. More than 20 PACE deputies signed a written declaration in Petrenco’s support. But dun is still in the mire. I hope very much that the next week’s consideration of the Petrenco group’s case will start with his releasing under Europeans’ guarantees”, the lawyer said.
