19 january, 2016
OPINION POLL SHOWS PEOPLE’S LOW TRUST IN POLITICIANS… The level of trust of Moldovan citizens in politicians is extremely low, while almost one-half of people (48.5%) do not trust any of political leaders. Such results were achieved after conducting sociological poll “Voice of the people - January 2015” and presented by the Association of Sociologists and Demographers of Moldova at the news conference at Infotag on Tuesday.

According to the poll, leading positions on people’s trust are occupied by Socialist Party leader Igor Dodon, Partidul Nostru [Our Party] Chairman Renato Usatii and former education minister Maia Sandu, who started the process of creating her own party. These three politicians are trusted by 15.2%, 14.9% and 9.4% of Moldovans, respectively. Leader of the newly created Dignity and Justice Party Andrei Nastase ranked the fourth, being trusted by 8% of respondents.

Out of parliamentary parties’ leaders, Iurie Leanca occupies the 5th place (7.4%), Vladimir Voronin (7.1%) - the 6th, Marian Lupu (4.1%) – the 9th, Dorin Chirtoaca (3.6%) – 10th, Adrian Candu (2.7%) – 11th, Mihai Ghimpu (1.8%) – 14th.

The rating “Persons, who impressed in 2015”, is headed by LDPM Chairman, former Premier Vlad Filat, arrested on accusation of corruption. This fact impressed 42.5% of the interviewees. The second in this rating is DA Platform leader, lawyer Andrei Nastase (30.9%). The third is former minister of education Maia Sandu (29.2%).

Sociologists called unexpected the appearance of President Nicolae Timofti at the 4th place of this rating (17.3%). The next three places are held by Ion Sturza (16.5%), Igor Dodon (14.9%) and Renato Usatii (13.8%). Oligarch Vlad Plahotniuc ranked only the 8th in this rating (8.9%). The last, 16th place in the rating is held by new Chairman of the unrecognized Transnistrian Moldovan republic parliament, Police General Vadim Krasnoselsky.

If nationwide presidential elections were held next Sunday, Igor Dodon would become the Moldovan leader, being voted by 17.1% electors. 16.4% would vote for Renato Usatii, while 8.9% - for Maia Sandu.

Presenting the poll results, Deputy Chairman of the Association Andrei Dumbraveanu said that sociologists were surprised by the fact that former president, Communist Party leader Vladimir Voronin ranked the 4th. 7.7% of respondents are ready to vote for him. Iurie Leanca would get 7.1%, Andrei Nastase – 6.5%, Marian Lupu – 6.3%.

According to the poll, if parliamentary elections were held next Sunday, three of five Moldovan parliamentary parties would not cross the 6% barrier. Thus, the Liberal Party would get 5.9% votes, Communists – 5.2%, while LDPM – only 2.3%.

The PSRM would be supported by 16.9% electors, Our Party – 14.8%, the newly formed party of the DA Platform – 9.1%. However, they would not be able to form a ruling coalition. The European People's Party of Moldova and the Democratic Party would also get into the Parliament, receiving 6.5% and 6.3%, respectively. With all this, if parliamentary elections were held next Sunday, 20% of respondents would not know for whom to vote, while 8% respondents would not even go to polling stations.

At the same time, the absolute majority stands for conducting early elections. Thus, 65% of respondents are positive about the organization of elections in 2016 and only 25% are against. 44% of electors are definitely ready to participate in elections, 36% would rather go voting than stay home.

The poll was conducted within the period of January 8 through 17, 2016 in 79 localities of Moldova except Transnistria. It covered 1191 respondents. The rate of error is of ± 3%.

…AND DECREASING NUMBER OF EUROPEAN INTEGRATION SUPPORTERS

The number of Moldovans, who support the idea of the country’s European integration, keeps shrinking. Only 38% of people, who participated in the Association of Sociologists and Demographers’ poll, stand for the European integration.

The results of the inquiry showed that 40% of respondents say that the economic and political stability can be achieved only within the Eurasian Economic Union (EAES).

20% of respondents failed to give a clear answer to the question in which direction the republic should develop, if a referendum was held in this regard.

Most of interviewees (40.2%) regarded as the most important events of 2015 the stealing of 1 billion of euros from the banking system and authorities’ passivity in seeking the money.

The next events of the 2015 are linked between them. These are protest actions against corruption and money stealing – 22.7%, establishment of the DA Platform and its Party – 20.1% and PSRM and Our Party protests – 18.4%, local elections 15.7%.

The situation in the Communist Party, the raising of signatures for conducting referendum and authorities’ actions against terrorism, including the arresting of a group of people in Balti were regarded as the least significant events of 2015.
